Did You Know:
1. Incorporated as a city in 1906, the City of Medicine Hat is in Cypress County, southeast Alberta, east of Lethbridge and southeast of Calgary. Located along the South Saskatchewan River, Medicine Hat is the province's sixth largest city, and is strategically located midway between Winnipeg, Saskatchewan and Vancouver, British Columbia on the Pacific coast. Medicine Hat is served by the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and is the eastern terminus of the Crowsnest Highway (Highway 3).
2. Medicine Hat inherits its name from the Blackfoot word saamis (loosely translated as "medicine man's hat") based on local legends of the area's indigenous peoples, who had used the fertile valley as a gathering place for thousands of years before European settlement. The current city was founded by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1883 when the company built a train bridge across the river. Rich in natural resources including natural gas, coal, clay, and farmland, Medicine Hat rapidly became settled and industrialized and was soon nicknamed the "Gas City" and "Pittsburgh of the West."
3. The London Drugs on 13 Avenue SE off the Trans-Canada Highway, has been part of the Medicine Hat community since 2001.
"Medicine Hat is the sunniest city in Canada. It has a small town atmosphere, with very friendly, down-to-earth residents, and is a family oriented, charitable and giving community that comes together during times of need. There are many outdoor and indoor activities for families, from free public skating in the winter to water parks in the summer; many parks, excellent scenery, independent local cuisine locally sourced from greenhouse vegetables and ranching. And it's home to the Medicine Hat Tigers."
