Did You Know:
1. Incorporated as a township in 1879 and as a city in 1990, the City of Richmond at the mouth of the Fraser River encompasses most of Lulu Island (a venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics), adjacent Sea Island (home of the Vancouver International Airport), and 15 other islets. It is bordered by the Strait of Georgia to the west; Vancouver and Burnaby to the north; New Westminster to the east; and Delta to the south, and includes the villages of Steveston and Burkeville.
2. Coast Salish peoples historically had many transient fishing and foraging camps in the area, primarily at Garry Point, Woodward's Landing, and the Terra Nova cannery site. Richmond was named by one of its founding European settlers, John Wesley Sexsmith, after his birthplace of Richmond in the province of Ontario - which had been named after the town of Richmond in Yorkshire, England.
3. The London Drugs in Ironwood Plaza on Steveston Highway at No. 5 Road, has been part of Richmond's South Arm neighbourhood since 1998.
"Love the ever-growing Steveston area! It's a great community for riding your bike and walking — the Terra Nova area is suppost to be a wonderful walk. It's a fun, active community, with many one-stop shopping areas and great pubs and resturants."
