1. Incorporated in 1915, the City of Prince George is the largest municipality in the Fraser-Fort George District, northern British Columbia, at the confluence of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, and where Highway 16 and Highway 97 meet. Prince George is near the province's geographic centre and is a transportation and service hub. It is home to the University of Northern British Columbia and the College of New Caledonia, and offers year-round outdoor recreation activities, including five nearby ski hills.
2. The Prince George area is the traditional territory of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, of the Dakelh indigenous peoples. T'enneh means "the People" and Lheidli means "where the two rivers flow together" in the Carrier language, referring to how the Nechako River enters the Fraser River. European settlement began in 1807 when Simon Fraser established Fort George, a North West Company trading post named in honour of England's King George III.
