Canon's First 85mm L-series Lens with IS Capability
The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM marks a new level of agility in a medium-telephoto lens as Canon's first 85mm L-series lens to incorporate Image Stabilization. It delivers up to 4 stops (CIPA Standard) of stabilization, making handheld operation possible in a vastly increased number of scenarios from portraiture to snapshots and everywhere in between.

Large, Bright f/1.4 Aperture
The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM features a large f/1.4 maximum aperture, which produces a shallow depth of field for beautiful background blur, captures at a fast shutter speed, a bright viewfinder image as well as easy operation in low-light situations. Combined with its built-in IS, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM helps capture images in a variety of environments where other lenses may require the use of a flash or alternate lighting source.

Image Stabilization at up to 4 Stops of Shake Correction
For consistently sharp results, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM features an Image Stabilizer system that provides significant shake reduction for up to 4 shutter speed steps. This helps provide reliable handheld performance and clear image detail in low-light situations or at lower ISOs. Because of Image Stabilization, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM can also help minimize the need for a tripod.

GMo Aspherical Lens with Air Sphere Coating Technology
The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM is engineered to help render crisp and clear images. For high-contrast images that remain sharp from corner to corner of the composition, it features a molded glass (GMo) aspherical lens, and the Image Stabilizer lens is coated with Canon's Air Sphere Coating (ASC) technology for significantly reduced flare and ghosting from reflected light.

Dust- and Water-Resistant Professional-Grade Design
Built to L-series specifications, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM not only offers optical excellence but is designed to perform in even the most challenging environments. It delivers a dust- and water-resistant construction with seals around the switch panel, the focus rings and the mount. The surface of the lens even features a smudge-resistant fluorine coating that repels water and oil and can easily be cleaned with a dry cloth.

Circular Aperture (9 blades) for Beautiful Bokeh
Thanks to its 9-blade, circular aperture, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM is capable of gorgeous, evocative out-of-focus areas and soft backgrounds. With an incredible level of control over background blur, the 9-blade circular aperture helps create intimacy and intensity in both photos and videos for impactful results.

33.5 in./85cm Minimum Focusing Distance
With a minimum focusing distance of 33.5 in./85cm, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM enables operation close to the subject, perfect for intimate portraits, headshots and detail work.

High-speed AF Using Ring USM Technology and Rear Group Focusing
To help capture every movement, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM features a fast and near-silent AF system. It uses an inner focusing ring USM (ultrasonic motor) system that works with a high-speed CPU and optimized AF algorithms to help deliver precise, lightning-fast performance. For even more refinement, the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM offers full-time manual focus as well.

Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS USM Lens - 2271C002 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Value I am not a professional, but could tell immediately the professional quality of this lens. It ads a new dimension in composition with its extremely shallow depth of field. Automatic focus is truly a snap. I've shot outdoor portraits of grandchildren and the outcomes are brilliant. Couldn't be more pleased with this lens. Price is relative when considering how often you will use this lens and the quality of the resulting pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holy smokes. I rented this lens a week ago. I was weary about purchasing such a weighty lens(both literal weight and price-wise.) Long story short, I bought this lens after my first shoot. I ended up really loving the weight of the lens! The autofocus is silent and super pristine. It will be a great addition to my business! I couldn't be more impressed with Canon!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Lens! Quite simply...this is an outstanding lens. Typical Canon quality I have come to expect after shooting Canon for 30+ years. This is a marked improvement over the 85mm 1.2 II. Lighter, and faster focusing, not to mention the added Image Stabilization...a great tool to have. I do not notice much of a loss of Bokeh from the 1.2 to 1.4 f stop. Color and Contrast are wonderful! The IS really works as I can typically shoot handheld down to 1/25 or 1/15 with no issues. Adding this to my 5D MKIV or my EOS R makes a perfect walking around lens, and for studio use it really shines. Add this lens to your gear, you won't be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest portraits lens ever ++ This is literally the best portrait lens ever made, period. The build is solid and top notch quality, the image stabilization is cutting edge, auto-focus is spectacular. Opened all the way up to f/1.4 you can really create those "dreamy" backgrounds, not just bokeh, but something magical to it (about 95% of the f/1.2 counterpart). Stopped down to f/1.8 - f/4 and you can still get great subject to background separation with excellent bokeh, while keeping your subject entirely sharp. At f/2.8 - f/4 you can get pretty much your entire subject sharp, with still a great blurred background. The color rendition, contrast, natural saturation, are all fantastic right out of camera. While it's a touch on the heavy side, the ergonomics are great and it's way better than the 85mm f/1.2 predecessor. It's definitely a tank compared to the old school 85mm f/1.8 but the difference in quality, build, and versatility with the wider aperture are night and day and worth the weight/size trade-off. In addition to portraits, I actually find the 85mm a great focal length for lifestyle and walking around photography, the quality of this lens really adds an extra punch to just about anything, even distant landscapes. The best part about this lens is you can shoot hand held in just about any condition thanks to the IS and wide aperture. For any serious portrait photographer you can probably buy this lens and not need to purchase anything else for the rest of your career. It's also a great addition to any other professional genre of photography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW!!! Just WOW...Goodbye 85mm 1.2L!!! I've had this amazing collection of Canon Glass in a barrel for a few months now and it has nearly been a permanent fixture on my 5D Mk-IV!!! While I have loved, as many have,my 85-1.2L for a long time and across several bodies, it's draggingly slow Autofocus has always been an issue for using it more than in the studio and select location work. While losing a stop of light seemed sad at first thougts, the addition of the amazing IS system in this lens has more than compensated...AND saved my forearms a lot of wear and tear on long days via the reduction in weight over the 1.2...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A truly awesome lens! I bought this for portrait work but now it sits on my 5d mark iv like a king on his throne! It’s great for portrait work and for creating that bokeh effect. I’m extremely happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition to my Canon lenses arsenal I have the 85mm 1.8 which I very much like. I have used the 85 1.2 which I loved but found difficult t use in "live" situations. When Canon announced the 1.4, I patiently waited and read everything that had been published about it: reviews, a couple of comparisons (Sigma Art, etc.). Well, I finally received my copy about 10 days ago and I really like it. The focusing is fast, the color accurate. Some reviewers believe the Sigma Art is sharper, has less CA, etc. The fact is that I find the differences negligible even at close inspection. The decisive addition of the IS makes this Canon the leader of the pack. This lens focuses quickly even with limited lighting. I am astounded by how quickly and sharply this lens responds. Great lens, great addition. It will displace my 135 1.2 and even the 70-200mm 2.8 in many situations.
