Vicks 1.9L Ultrasonic Humidifier - VUL520WC is rated out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Ariana from Great product, but NOT ULTRASONIC First off, this is NOT AN ULTRASONIC humidifier, despite London Drugs' description. The product itself says nothing about being ultrasonic, so I don't know where London Drugs got this from. I purchased it thinking it was an ultrasonic unit, and was disappointed on that point. However, I do not fault the manufacturer for London Drugs' mistake, and am conducting this review based on what it is - a non-ultrasonic unit. The humidifier itself works great. It has an adjustable dial for the level of misting level, which I generally set to a mid-level for my child's room. It has an auto-shutoff feature which I know works, as the unit ran out of water one night while it was on full-blast. (I don't think it was completely full, but mostly full) It has a good-sized capacity and is capable of lasting the night on full-blast, but the domed shape of the water reservoir makes filling it deceptively tricky, as you think that you've mostly filled it, only to discover when you've turned it right-side up, that it's only about 75% full due to the wider bottom and narrower top. Just make sure you've filled it pretty much to the brim and you'll be fine. Not being an ultrasonic unit, it does emit a consistent hum, which I find distracting when trying to sleep, but is fine for my toddler. Then again, I pretty much require complete silence when trying to fall asleep. Occasionally you will hear a brief gurgling sound as the water from the reservoir makes its way down to the base. For the most part, this has not bothered my toddler, and had I written this review last week, I would have said that it's never been a problem in the year that I've owned this unit. However, two nights ago, a freakishly loud gurgle occurred, which I heard from one room over, briefly waking my child. (Or it was a coincidence and he just happened to rouse at that same moment, I don't know) However, that was one instance out of many, many incident-free uses of the humidifier, so it was likely just a weird anomaly. I've found the unit to be reasonable easy to clean, the only challenge being in making sure to get all the crevices in the reservoir when wiping it dry before storage. Allowing it to air-dry may be best. There is no filter to worry about, which is great for ease of maintenance. Full disclosure: I have soft water, so a filter isn't really needed. Your experience may differ if you have hard water. I haven't found the mist from this unit to pool on its surroundings, though you may wish to place the unit on a towel for your first couple of runs, just to make sure. All in all, I am very pleased with this unit, and would recommend it if you don't require a totally silent humidifier.
