Display
A larger screen gives you more space for multitasking and viewing movies. On a laptop, a smaller screen provides better mobility for working on the go.
Video card
For everyday tasks, integrated graphics give you the video processing power for word processing and DVD movies. Discrete—or dedicated—graphics cards with at least 256 MB of video memory (VRAM) offer more power for gaming and editing digital media.
RAM
Generally, the more RAM you have the faster your PC will perform. 1 GB of RAM is the minimum for everyday tasks—2 or more GB is best for multitasking, gaming and working with digital media.
Processor
The Processor—or CPU—is the "brain" of the PC and the most crucial element for performance and speed. Dual-core and quad-core CPUs are recommended for better processing power and improved multitasking.
Hard disk space
Most new PCs provide at least 80-120 GB of free hard drive space—plenty of storage capacity for your programs, documents, and digital music collection. You may need more space If you store large files or have an extensive music or video collection.
