Wynne Powell honoured in Victoria with R.W. Caulfield Award for Leadership

Award recognizes 30 years devoted to building business in British Columbia and providing community leadership

Victoria, BC – London Drugs President and CEO Wynne Powell will receive the inaugural R.W. Caulfield Award for Leadership on September 24, 2011 at the Victoria Conference Centre in Victoria, BC.

Presented by the Certified General Accountants' (CGA) Board of Governors, the R.W. (Bill) Caulfield Leadership Award recognizes innovative and visionary leaders working in business, public office, community, or public service industries, who encourage bold thinking, volunteerism, and are ethical role models.

"It is truly an honour to be recognized by the CGA Board and my peers," said Powell. "This award is testament to the group of individuals I have the privilege of working with at London Drugs. They make it possible for the London group of companies to thrive in constant change. I am extremely appreciative for the opportunity to lead such a dynamic group."

Wynne Powell , F.C.G.A., D.Tech. (Hon.) has been with London Drugs since 1982. His uncompromising commitment to customers, vendor partners, active encouragement of creativity and innovation, and a steadfast belief in technological sophistication are major factors in London Drugs' success. Powell leads 8200 employees and is also the president and CEO of sister companies: London Air Services, Sonora Resort and TLD Computers.

Powell serves as Board Chair of the Provincial Health Services Authority of BC and is the Chair of Chairs for all of the Health Authorities in British Columbia. "I'm a strong advocate in extending professional and leadership skills to a wide range of initiatives in the community," said Powell. "Being involved in the community presents a whole new set of challenges and different learning experiences that can then be applied back to work and in business."

Powell received the CGA Fellowship designation in 1999, granted by CGA Canada for his outstanding contribution to his profession.

Additional accolades for Powell include an honorary Doctor of Technology from BCIT with a lifetime appointment as Governor of the BCIT Foundation.

Powell is also a recipient of the Order of St. John and the Golden Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II.

Wynne Powell is the first recipient of the R.W. Caulfield Award for Leadership which is dedicated to Bill Caulfield, who was Executive Director of CGA-BC from 1983 to 2010, until his passing. He was an exceptional leader and driving force in BC, elevating the professional status of CGA.
