How It Works
NeoStrata® Wrinkle Repair cream penetrates the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, pushing wrinkles outwards to smooth the skin’s surface. In addition to a number of skin-enhancing ingredients, the formulation contains a protein peptide known as Matrixyl® (palmitoyl pentapeptide-3) in a concentration of 5 percent. This relatively small molecule is attached to a fatty acid to enhance solubility and skin penetration, and is structurally related to the precursor of collagen type 1— the most abundant protein in the skin. NeoStrata® Wrinkle Repair’s wrinklereducing capability is enhanced by the addition of retinol, a natural form of Vitamin A, and mango seed butter to soften the skin and increase its ability to retain youthful moisture levels. The formulation is helpful for the face, neck and eye area, and is best suited to the skincare needs of women 40 years and older. For continuing skin protection, follow with a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher.
Banishing Age Spots
Age spots, sometimes called sun spots or solar lentigo, are areas of the skin where melanin or “sun pigment” has become concentrated, rather like a freckle. They usually occur on areas of the skin that are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light such as the upper hands and cheekbone area. (Many women find them particularly concentrated over the upper left cheekbone—the area that receives the most UV exposure when driving.)
Asian women, traditionally admired for their porcelain skin, are particularly susceptible to age spots.
Since age spots are caused by cumulative sun exposure, they worsen as we age and increase in number. To a great extent, they are prevented by wearing sunscreen daily on all exposed areas including the upper hands. (Don’t forget to reapply after washing.) Nonetheless, most women develop sun spots and other areas of dark pigmentation as the years pass by.
Proven Pigment Control
NeoStrata® Skin Brightener with 20 percent Vitamin C has been specially formulated to address skin dullness and excess/uneven pigmentation. Vitamin C is known to inhibit the formation of melanin, making this product ideal for preventive, as well as therapeutic use.
People with more visible pigmentation benefit from the use of a formula containing hydroquinone—a substance that appears to block the enzyme that facilitates melanin production.
NeoStrata® HQ gel contains 2 percent hydroquinone as well as 10 percent glycolic acid to exfoliate dead, darkened skin cells. NeoStrata® HQ Plus gel contains 4 percent hydroquinone with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) to exfoliate and moisturize. NeoStrata® HQ Plus cream contains 4 percent hydroquinone with AHAs and PHAs, in addition to a sunscreen of SPF 15. Since it is not known if topical hydroquinone is harmful to an unborn baby, you should refrain from using these products if you are pregnant or nursing.
NeoStrata® skincare products may be found in the Specialty Skincare section of the cosmetics department at your local London Drugs.
