London Drugs invests in the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the future of health care in British Columbia

VANCOUVER, BC – The University of British Columbia's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to receive a major gift from London Drugs that will be invested over the next few years. This investment will support a new interactive learning environment in the new pharmaceutical sciences building that will open at UBC in September 2012.

The new building will offer advanced technology including the exploration of future virtual "e-patients." The building and London Drugs Lecture Theatre will feature interactive educational technology allowing students to engage in their own learning via a reciprocal and active dialogue with their instructors.

"London Drugs believes strongly in investing in the future of health care and patient-centred care," said John Tse, UBC alumnus and vice president of London Drugs. "The new pharmaceutical building with innovative learning technology will enhance pharmacy students' learning and will help shape our future leaders in the delivery of health care in Canada."

The new pharmaceutical sciences building will also allow the faculty to increase the number of students accepted by more than 40 per cent. This means more students will be able to pursue an education in pharmacy and have access to greater learning resources.

"This generous donation from London Drugs will help the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences continue its commitment to outstanding education and research," said Dr. Robert Sindelar, Dean of UBC's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. "We are honoured that London Drugs has made such a significant investment to assist our students in developing the necessary and enhanced skills to become successful pharmacists and health care providers in British Columbia and Canada."
