London Drugs Senior Vice-President nominated to RCBC Board of Directors for second term

VANCOUVER, B.C. (May 24, 2011) – On May 6, 2011 members of the Recycling Council of British Columbia (RCBC) re-elected London Drugs Senior Vice-President Clint Mahlman to its 2011-2012 Board of Directors. The organization had a total of six director-at-large positions available with three in non-profit and three in business. Mahlman was re-elected from the eight candidates in contention for the business category due to his extensive knowledge and corporate sustainable leadership in the retail sector.

Responsible for operations and distribution for one of the largest organizations in Western Canada, Clint Mahlman oversees the sustainable initiatives and comprehensive waste management programs at London Drugs. This includes leading a team of people dedicated to the reduction of waste going to the landfill- both for London Drugs corporately and for London Drugs' 74 locations across Western Canada. Clint's vision and dedication to waste reduction has positioned the company as an industry leader in environmental stewardship. Since introducing expanded recycling programs in 2006, London Drugs has experienced 64 per cent waste reduction, chain-wide. Through its signature "Bring Back the Pack" program, London Drugs customers can bring back all of their product packaging – including Styrofoam - for recycling. The program has resulted in over 90,000 lbs of Styrofoam being recycled and diverted from the landfill.

London Drugs was BC Hydro's 2009 Retailer of the Year and a BC Hydro Electronics and Lighting Retailer of the Year 2010 finalist. Clint continues to work closely with London Drugs customers, industry and government partners across Western Canada on a variety of sustainable initiatives. He is regularly asked to present at environmental symposiums including the Metro Vancouver (Greater Vancouver Regional District) Future of the Region Sustainability Dialogue, the Recycling Council of BC's Zero Waste annual conference and Recycling Council of Alberta.
