You may have heard it said that the only safe tan is a fake tan. This is because a tan is the skin’s way of recognizing that it has sustained damage and needs to protect itself from further injury.

While many people use sunless tanning lotions to add a little colour for the summer, one of the main concerns voiced by consumers is the often- dramatic change in skin colour they produce. With a natural tan, the skin gradually builds colour, as melanin is deposited in the upper layers.

Neutrogena Build-a-Tan™’s moisturizing formula delivers just a hint of colour with each application, allowing you to decide how deep and dark you want your sunless tan to be. Apply it more often for a deep, dark tan or less often for a healthy glow. This non-streaking, creamy lotion is provides natural-looking, even colour that starts to develop in two to four hours following application. It may be used daily and dries in just five minutes.

Neutrogena Build-a-Tan™ for the body is available in a 200 ml pump bottle. The 75 ml facial formula, Neutrogena Build-a-Tan™ Face, has an SPF of 15, allowing you to look tanned while protecting your skin from sun damage.

Before using a sunless tanning product, be sure to exfoliate dry areas of skin (such as the knees, the outer ankle bone and elbows), and moisturize well. You should begin this process two or three days prior to application. Apply the sunless tanning product quickly and evenly. Wash your hands well after application, particularly the cuticles and under the nails, where lotion may become trapped.
