Treating "Ouchies" Safely

Goodbye Warts

Put a Stop to Pain & Itching

Introducing the Liquid Bandage

Hurt-Free Wound Care

Treating 'Ouchies' Safely
Summer fun often involves bare feet - in particular, on the beach. Sharp pebbles, broken glass, even the pincers of a crab can all give rise to broken skin and risk of infection.

Preventing Cuts and Scrapes
To keep your child’s feet free of cuts and puncture wounds, make sure he or she wears beach shoes. Beach fires can also pose a hazard. Warn your little ones to stay away from fires when there is no adult supervision.

When a Cut Happens
Unfortunately, beaches provide an ideal environment for germs. These are quick to invade cuts and scrapes, giving rise to infections. Smart parents always take a First Aid kit to the beach or park. A few adhesive bandages, and an antibiotic ointment such as Polysporin, will help keep cuts and scrapes clean and germ-free.

Children with diabetes should not be treated with antibiotic creams or ointments for more than a few days without review by a doctor.

Goodbye Warts
Nobody likes warts. The cauliflower-like growths are ugly and embarrassing, particularly for children.

Although they may look “yukky,” warts are harmless growths that are caused by a virus. They can easily spread from one person to another through skin contact. Encouraging your child not to pick at a wart will help minimize the chances of its multiplying or spreading.

Warts are easy to identify as they have tiny dark dots on the surface. These are the ends of the vessels that supply the wart with blood. If you are in doubt about a growth on your child’s skin, you should check with a doctor to rule out anything more serious. Left alone, a wart will usually disappear within a couple of years - far too long a time for a wart-conscious youngster to wait!

Now you can make wart-removal a fast and pleasant experience for your child with Compound W® wart removal pads. Each waterproof pad features images of Garfield and provides extra cushioning for pain relief.

Compound W® wart removal products also include pads for adults and fast-acting liquid. All may be found in your local London Drugs.

Please note that wart removing products containing salicylic acid should not be used on moles, hairy warts, facial or genital warts, or applied to broken, infected or inflamed skin. People with diabetes should not use products that contain salicylic acid without first checking with a doctor.

Keep this and all medications out of your child’s reach.

Introducing the Liquid Bandage
Band-Aid® Liquid Bandage is a revolutionary new way to seal minor cuts and scrapes. Unlike traditional bandages, Liquid Bandage stays in place - even on hard-to-cover areas like fingers and knuckles and in water. Hurt-Free Wound Care
Getting an “ouchie” is no fun for any child. Yet cuts, scrapes and other minor injuries are a right of passage for all active youngsters, particularly during the warmer months.

Now you can make your child’s wound-care a happier process - with Band-Aid® fun bandages for kids. With popular Nickelodeon characters, Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer and Rocket Power, the sterile adhesive bandages come in assorted sizes.

Always clean a child’s wound carefully and apply an antiseptic before applying a bandage. This will significantly minimize the risk of infection. You may want to try Band-Aid® Hurt-free Antiseptic Wash to clean minor skin wounds (avoiding the sting associated with soap and water). If a wound does not heal, becomes red or exudes pus, or your child develops a fever or rash on the body, you should seek immediate medical attention.

You will find the full range of Band Aid® First Aid products at London Drugs.
