The Aches and Pains of Winter

Colds and other winter bugs can make you feel rotten and prevent you from getting through your busy day. Here’s how to prevent or treat the nasty symptoms associated with winter ills.

Keeping Yourself Strong

A strong immune system is your best line of defence against colds, flu, and other winter ills. Here are ways to ensure that your immune system is in fighting shape:

  • Eat healthy foods, including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and make sure you get an adequate amount of lean protein (preferably fish, chicken, eggs or tofu). Fruit and vegetables are loaded with antioxidants that will keep your immune system strong and well.
  • Eat lots of uncooked garlic, or consider taking a garlic supplement. Raw garlic has natural antiviral and antibiotic activity.
  • Get enough sleep—at least seven hours a night. During sleep, the immune system restores itself to help you stay well.
  • Make sure you exercise. A brisk walk as often as possible will help you keep strong and fit. • Stay away from people with colds.
  • Wash your hands frequently. Cold germs can be found on door handles, phones, stair rails, faucets, and just about every hard surface you can think of. Once on your hands, they are easily transferred to the mucous membranes of your nose and mouth.

Needed Protection
