There’s no getting around the fact that the holidays are filled with temptation! Parties, dinners with friends and office socials make it easy to eat or drink a little too much and sabotage the goal of
getting (or staying) in shape. Here are a few tips to help you avoid consuming too much of the “good stuff” during the festivities.
- Eat something healthy before you attend. You’ll be less likely to eat too much fattening holiday food if you are not feeling hungry.
- Drink a glass or two of water between alcoholic beverages and in lieu of eating more finger food.
- Fill your plate with veggies and just a little dip.
- If you have been invited to dinner, let your host know you would appreciate it if s/he would serve you a smaller portion of the main meal and just a sampling of dessert.
- Plan on spending one or two dinners, or a whole day, eating exactly what you want (but still watch the quantity). Look forward to enjoying your favourite foods, and you’ll be less likely to feel deprived.
