Juvenile diabetes affects more than 200,000 young Canadians who require daily insulin injections just to live. While most children put on a brave face, London Drugs believes that no child should have to suffer close to 1,100 injections every year in order to manage the condition.
Juvenile diabetes is a chronic illness in which the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Current research focuses on the development of better treatments for complications and to ultimately cure and prevent diabetes. Research aimed at ending diabetes is ongoing and expensive; financial support is therefore a necessity.
To help raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), London Drugs helped sponsor the 3rd Annual Rockin' for Research event held in Vancouver last November. This event raised $435,000 in support of diabetes research.
We have also launched an initiative that allows our customers to help raise much-needed funds. When you buy specially marked products from any London Drugs store, a donation will be made to the JDRF. Many of these items can be found at our Diabetes Resource Centre - a section dedicated to products and literature especially for people with diabetes - located in the pharmacy area. (If you do not regularly purchase diabetes related items, you may wish to ask for assistance in locating other items that fall within this program.) Through this initiative, London Drugs will raise a minimum of $50,000 for diabetes research.
