Early Detect™ kits enable you to test yourself for certain health conditions in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Depending on the result of your test, you will be able to determine how promptly to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
A Test for Ulcer Bacteria
Bacteria known as H. pylori are present in most people’s stomachs. They are normally harmless because they are controlled by the stomach fluids. However, in some people, these bacteria lead to the development of stomach ulcers.
If you have recurring stomach pain or acid indigestion, you may have an ulcer. Now that doctors understand better how ulcers develop, significant advances have been made in their treatment. The majority of peptic ulcers may now be fully cured.
The Early Detect™ Ulcer Bacteria Test will detect the presence of the bacteria that cause ulcers.
A Test for Cholesterol
Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Canada. High blood levels of cholesterol (a fatty substance produced by the liver and present in foods of animal origin), are a major contributor to heart disease.
Reducing high cholesterol levels reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. Since cholesterol levels change throughout life, it is important to test your levels periodically.
The Early Detect™ Cholesterol Test helps you keep track of your cholesterol levels - an important step in heart health.
A Test for Prostate Health
Enlargement of the prostate gland is a common problem in men over the age of 45. By the age of 80, 85 percent of all men have an enlarged prostate - a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
BPH is not malignant, but it can be uncomfortable and cause problems with urination and ejaculation.
A prostate specific antigen (PSA) test can help identify if the prostate is healthy. When levels of PSA in the blood are high, it can point to prostate cancer, and should be investigated by your doctor. High levels of PSA do not necessarily mean you have a malignancy of the prostate, and very low levels do not completely rule out the possibility that you may. The PSA test does, however, provide your doctor with additional information that will help in a diagnosis.
The Early Detect™ Prostate (PSA) Screening Test is simple to use, completed in minutes, and requires just one drop of blood. In the event that your test result is postive, please consult your doctor for a thorough assessment. If your test is negative, and you remain concerned about the health of your prostate, you should also seek a medical opinion.
A Test for Blood Alcohol
While not strictly a medical test, the Early Detect™ Blood Alcohol Test can detect blood alcohol levels as low as 0.02 percent, letting you know before you get behind the wheel, if you are sober enough to drive.
You don’t have to be drunk to be unable to drive safely. Even one or two drinks can slow your reflexes enough to cause an accident.
Tests Especially for Women
Assistance with Breast Self-Examination
Every year in Canada, nearly 20,000 women learn that they have breast cancer. The chances for a complete recovery from breast cancer are over 90 percent if the tumour is caught early, before it has had the chance to spread.
Nine out of ten breast lumps are detected during breast self-examination. The Early Detect™ Breast Examination Pad is designed to reduce friction, enabling a woman to detect lumps at a much smaller size and report them to the doctor.
The kit contains one reusable breast self-examination pad, an instructional video and educational resources.
A Test for Menopause
In the years leading up to menopause (the complete cessation of periods), many women experience a number of unpleasant symptoms. These include hot flashes/night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings, weight gain, and fatigue.
If you are between 40 and 55 years of age, and are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may want to invest in the Early Detect™ Menopause Kit to see whether or not you are approaching menopause. You can then discuss with your doctor the measures that can be taken to relieve symptoms and prevent or minimize long-term health consequences.
A Test for Ovulation
The Early Detect™ Ovulation Test can help you identify the days when you are most fertile, and therefore most likely to become pregnant. The simple urine test takes only five minutes and is 99 percent accurate in identifying your most fertile time.
Testing for Pregnancy
If you think you may be pregnant, you will want to know as quickly as possible if you are or aren’t.
The Early Detect™ Pregnancy Test is a one-step urine test that takes only five minutes to perform and is 99 percent accurate. It will provide you with an answer on the very first day of a missed period.
