Recordable Media Levy Information

Repeal the Levy!

Notice to our valued customers

Recent court ruling regarding private copying levies on MP3 players.

At London Drugs, we have chosen to show the Copyrighting Board Private Copying Tariff separately because we do not believe that this added cost should be hidden from consumers.

Repeal the CD Levy

The Copyright Levy for 2005, 2006, 2007 was announced today (May 11th, 2007). There were reductions in the levy for audio cassettes from 29 cents to 24 cents; and Minidiscs, CD-R Audio and CD-RW Audio were reduced from 77 cents to 21 cents.

.
Media Levy
Audio Cassette tape (40-minute lengths or longer) 24¢ per unit
CD-R Audio, CD-RW-Audio & MiniDisc 21¢ per unit
CD-R, CD-RW (non-audio) 21¢ per unit
Levy struck down by Canadian Federal Court of Appeal
Non-removable media permanently embedded in digital audio recorder
Recorders less than 1GB $2 per unit
Recorders more than 1GB but less than 10GB $15 per unit
Recorders more than 10GB. .$25 per unit

We will beat any competitor's advertised price on identical products we sell where the retailer has included the levy in their price. See staff for further details.

We do not believe the Tariff is fair, so London Drugs has joined with other retailers and manufacturers to oppose this on behalf of our customers.
