CALGARY, AB – On Saturday, April 18th, Calgarians donated canned and non-perishable food items at London Drugs stores across Calgary during Food For Thought. Held on Saturday afternoon, Calgary Food Bank volunteers were on hand to collect 4,000 pounds of food and $3,955.74 in cash donations at all eight London Drugs locations. 

Knowing the increased demand that was facing the Calgary Food Bank, London Drugs store managers joined together to bring attention to the needs of the food bank. The Calgary Food Bank is dedicated to gathering and distributing quality emergency food for those in need. Individuals and families in crisis receive approximately one week of quality food (up to a maximum of six times per year). Over 200 emergency food hampers are distributed everyday. Last year, 89,586 people received Emergency Food Hampers, 43% more people came to the Food Bank in February 2009 than in February 2008 and more than 3,800 volunteers gave 75,765 hours of their time to help feed the hungry.
